Robert R. Thacker

Robert R. Thacker of Fairfax, Virginia – Robert Richard (Dick) Thacker, age 69, passed suddenly on December 9, 2012, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.

Native of Norristown, Pennsylvania; graduated from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, and from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Zoology.

Dick retired from Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in April 2011 as the Director of Environmental Programs, Mission IT, with forty years of experience in planning and directing environmental programs. For thirty years Dick supported EPA's Contract Laboratory Program's (CLP's) Sample Management Office and was its Program Manager for twenty-three years. The CLP provides data of known and documented quality to support Superfund data users in their cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and other environmental hazards across the country.

Dick was an avid runner, hiker and enjoyed kayaking for many years. He competed in numerous10K races as well as ran in both the Marine Corp and Honolulu Marathons. He hiked and kayaked locally, in Shenandoah, Hawaii, Key West, and most recently, Maine. He especially liked hiking off the trail, looking for native plants, and always looking for animals and birds. Dick was actively involved in his son Christopher's Boy Scout Troop, serving on committees and participating in their many camping and hiking trips as well as their Sea Base Florida adventure. He loved to cook - especially for family and friends. Thanksgiving dinner was always a favorite; fried turkeys, numerous side dishes, and too many pies.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Roberta Nantier Thacker; his son, Christopher Robert Thacker; his sisters Liesa Finkbiner, Claire Reagan, Barbara Seuffert and Arlene Reagan; his aunt, Sandra Updegrove Lawler; and fifteen nieces and nephews.
